The Saint Margot journal · Nail care
A glossy manicure starts before the first wrap touches your nail. A little preparation, the right fit and a few simple application habits can make all the difference to how your wraps look and wear.
Whether you’re trying Saint Margot for the first time or perfecting your routine, here’s how to get a smoother finish and more from every set.
In this guide
1. Start With Clean, Completely Dry Nails
Hand cream, cuticle oil and moisture can interfere with adhesion, so save the moisturising for after your manicure has had time to settle.
Remove any existing polish, gently push back your cuticles and shape your nails. Clean the nail surface and allow it to dry completely before applying your wraps.
Avoid applying straight after a bath, shower or long soak. Give your nails time to dry thoroughly first.
Our tip: once you’ve prepped, avoid touching the nail surface with your fingertips—you can transfer oils back onto it.
2. Choose the Right Size—and Try Both Directions
A wrap should cover the nail without overlapping the cuticle or surrounding skin.
Our wraps have a narrower base and flare out towards the opposite end. You can turn the wrap around to suit your nail shape. If you have a wider nail base, try placing the wider end near your cuticle instead.
Check the fit in both directions before choosing your size. If you’re between sizes, choose the option that sits entirely on your nail rather than overlapping your skin.
Matching fingers on opposite hands don’t always need the same size, so check each nail individually.
3. Leave a Tiny Gap at the Cuticle
Place the wrap close to your cuticle, leaving a tiny gap so it rests entirely on the nail plate.
It can be tempting to push it right against the skin for maximum coverage, but a neat gap helps you secure the edge properly.
Take a moment to check the position before pressing the whole wrap into place.
4. Smooth From the Centre Outwards
Press the wrap down through the centre of your nail, then smooth towards each side. Work gradually to push out trapped air and flatten any small creases.
Our nail wraps can be gently stretched to fit your nail. If you need to stretch a wrap, do so carefully and handle the adhesive underside as little as possible to help preserve its stickiness.
Our tip: leave your thumbs until last. They’re useful for peeling, positioning and smoothing the wraps on your other fingers.
5. Trim First, Then File Gently
Use small manicure scissors to trim the excess wrap beyond your natural nail, keeping the blades clear of your skin and nail.
Gently file away the remaining excess in a downward direction. Avoid vigorous sawing or filing upwards, which can disturb the edge.
UV-free wraps are designed to cover your natural nails, so remove any unsupported overhang rather than leaving it as an extension. Overhang can catch, bend and cause the wrap to lift.
6. Give Every Edge a Final Press
Before you finish, press firmly across the nail surface, around the sides and along the tip.
Pay particular attention to the edges. A smooth, secure edge is less likely to catch on hair or clothing.
Your manicure may look finished, but this final check is worth the extra moment.
7. Add Extra Protection if You Need It
If you use your hands a lot, you can apply a compatible air-drying clear top coat for extra protection.
Apply a thin layer and allow it to dry fully, following the top coat’s instructions. Choose a conventional top coat that doesn’t require UV or LED curing to keep your manicure routine lamp-free.
A top coat is optional—your wraps already have a glossy finish.
8. Plan Your Application Around Your Day
Apply when you have a little time before washing dishes, showering or using hand cream. Follow the waiting period in your product’s aftercare instructions before prolonged water exposure.
An evening application can be convenient—just finish your shower, skincare and other wet tasks beforehand, then let your nails dry thoroughly before starting.
During wear, use gloves for washing up and household cleaning. Avoid using your nails to lift labels, open packaging or scrape surfaces.
9. Enjoy Longer-Lasting Wear
With correct application and care, aim for two weeks of wear or longer. Individual results will depend on your nail condition, preparation and daily activities.
For the best chance of reaching that two-week mark, focus on clean, dry nails, a good fit, neatly filed tips and firmly secured edges.
If a wrap starts lifting, avoid picking at it or trying to keep wearing it indefinitely. Follow the recommended removal process and replace it when needed.
10. Remove With Care
When it’s time for a change, gently lift a loose side edge of the nail wrap and apply a nourishing oil underneath and around the nail. Leave it for a minute or two, then slowly ease the wrap back as the adhesive releases.
Alternatively, soak your nails in comfortably warm, soapy water or warm water with a little oil for 3–5 minutes, then gently ease the wraps off.
Never pull off a firmly attached wrap. If it resists, pause, apply more oil or soak for longer, and allow the adhesive to loosen rather than adding force.
After removal, massage cuticle oil or moisturiser into your nails and surrounding skin.
